The philosophers of antiquity are a group of profound thinkers that lived circa the 6th to 5th centuries BCE. This period in time represents a fundamental perception shift that significantly impacted the development of religion, government, and science for the next 2500 years, and unto this very day. Many of the events of this time period were documented in the Book of Daniel as marked by the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple, and the exile of the Jewish king to Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar II.
Though Pythagoras of Samos is credited with coining the term philosopher, the term can rightly be applied to several other highly influential thinkers, or sages, of the time, including Zoroaster, Mahavira, Siddharta Gautama, Confucius, and Laozi. Though they differed in some principles, each of these sages offered a path forward into the Iron Age. Naturopathic medicine draws from the roots of all these traditions, and is in many ways represents a modern syncretism of ideas promoted by these philopshers.
Still, many ideas laid forth by these great philosophers hearken back to an even deeper antiquity, where certain advanced medical principles and practices were known to have been espoused by Imhotep in Egypt two thousand years prior to these philosophers.
