Michigan universities provide a wide array of educational programs designed for those wishing to pursue a career in dietetics and nutrition. This is a summary of the nutrition education programs available at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Eastern Michigan University, Central Michigan University, Madonna University, Andrews University, Wayne State University, and Western Michigan University.
Nutrition education programs at the University of Michigan are offered through the Department of Environmental Health Sciences. U-M offers a curriculum in nutrigenomics and epigenetics as well as community nutrition.
The Human Nutrition MPH program prepares graduates for leadership roles in local, state, and federal health agencies, educational institutions, community health organizations, hospitals and clinics. The program provides study of nutrition science, nutrition and disease states and community/public health nutrition.
This degree is designed for students seeking research careers and serves as postgraduate education, while also providing sufficient coursework for professional practice.
Students complete academic requirements as specified by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) to be registered dietician eligible. Students must take a minimum of one course in each of the following: calculus, English, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, human anatomy and physiology, psychology (or sociology or anthropology.) The program is currently accredited by CADE through December 2011.
The Dietetic Internship at the University of Michigan is a 1200-hour program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education (CADE) as a Dietetic Internship (DI). Graduates are qualified to take a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition is administered jointly by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the College of Natural Science. It offers bachelor of science degree programs for dietetics and food science and a bachelor of science degree in nutritional sciences.
The graduate curriculum offers masters of science and doctor of philosophy degree programs in food science and a Dietetic Internship Program that prepares its graduates to become dieticians in state-of-the-art practice, within diverse and challenging healthcare, food service and entrepreneurial positions.
The undergraduate program in dietetics has been approved by the American Dietetic Association (ADA) as a Didactic Program in Dietetics that meets the minimum academic requirements for professionally qualified dieticians.
The bachelor of science degree in food science at Michigan State Universty is recognized by the Institute of Food Technologists. The undergraduate program in food science provides comprehensive preparation in the basic sciences including chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology and physics.
The nutritional sciences major emphasizes intensive study in biological and physical sciences as a basis for understanding the science of nutrition and the relationships between nutrients and human health. Core course requirements emphasize human nutrition with areas of study in energy metabolism, proteins, minerals, vitamins, clinical and community nutrition, and human development.
Students who are admitted into the master's and doctoral degree programs conduct research in either food safety and toxicology or food processing and quality enhancement. Preparation for graduate work should include courses in agricultural and biological sciences, physics, mathematics, nutrition, engineering, economics, quantitative and organic chemistry, and biochemistry.

Nutrition education programs at Eastern Michigan University are offered through the School of Health Sciences.
The Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD) integrates didactic instruction with supervised practice experiences. This bachelor of science in dietetics program is offered both online and on campus at Eastern Michigan University. The program prepares students to work in health care, research, marketing, sales, education, government, private practice, and public relations. This program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
This in an online program integrating didactic instruction with supervised practice experiences.
This program provides an in-depth study of nutrition based on sound and current scientific evidence.

Students are prepared for careers in institutional food service settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, industrial food services, school systems, food service companies, and hotel or restaurant food service.
This program is offered through distance learning technology. It is designed to provide gradutes with the knowledge necessary to interpret scientific literature and conduct their own nutritional research. Completion of the Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics at Central Michigan University does not result in the attainment of registered dietician status unless the student completes the Plan B internship option.
This program prepares students for careers in dietetics and food related professions.
The Central Michigan University Dietetic Internship (CMUDI) is a 32-week program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) by the American Dietetic Association.

The Bachelor of Science in Dietetics at Madonna University is designed to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge required to act as counselors, care-givers, administrators, advocates, and educators. Graduates are encouraged to pursue careers in critical care, nutrition support, nutritional counseling centers, sports nutrition, senior centers, food service management, renal clinics, and corporate wellness programs.
The Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science at Madonna University is designed to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge required to pursue professional goals in food service management, food research, or nutrition. Graduates are encouraged to work in research, hospital or school food service systems, and the food industry.

The Bachelor of Science in Dietetics at Western Michigan University seeks to provide a broad base of professional skills including counseling and problem solving, interpersonal communication, writing, marketing, technology, business, and research.
