National Naturopathic Organizations

Council on Naturopathic Medical Education

Founded in 1978, CNME is accepted as the programmatic accrediting agency for naturopathic medical education by the four-year naturopathic colleges and programs in the United States and Canada, by the American and Canadian national naturopathic professional associations, and by NABNE. The U.S. Secretary of Education recognizes CNME as the national accrediting agency for naturopathic medical programs. Be advised that the various schools may also be accredited by regional bodies.

North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners

NABNE is responsible for qualifying applicants to take the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX) Examinations, administering the examinations to examinees, and preparing and sending exam results and transcripts to licensing/regulatory authorities. NPLEX is the examination graduates of the approved naturopathic medical colleges must pass to be eligible for licensure in any of the 16 states or 5 provinces that license/register naturopathic physicians. NPLEX follows the same standards as the National Board of Medical Examiners (for the USMLE), the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, and other healthcare professions.

American Association of Naturopathic Physicians

Founded in 1985, AANP is the national professional society representing licensed or licensable naturopathic physicians who are graduates of four-year, residential graduates programs. Each of the seven schools in North America is either accredited, or is a candidate for accreditation by an agency of the United States Department of Education.

Association of American Naturopathic Medical Colleges

AANMC was established in February 2001, to propel and foster the naturopathic medical profession by actively supporting the academic efforts of accredited and recognized schools of naturopathic medicine.
